'Tis a sunset of tranquility that surprises visitors to this place called the Liguasan Marsh, Asia's largest wetlands at 52,421 hectares and found in the south-central part of Mindanao.
For several decades the place has earned the notoriety of being the haven and refuge of kidnappers and revolutionary fighters, who always get lost from pursuing government security forces in the maze-like waterways.
Beneath, in its womb, however, are believed huge deposits of oil and natural gas, not mentioning the other rich mineral ores, like gold, copper and alloys that the entire southern Philippine island is noted for, and known for their world-class deposits.
Above ground alone, like this sunset, the splendor of the marsh speaks of a melancholic calling for appreciation from a troubled environment, which its people are trying to build the little Lego pieces of peace. Much more natural and man-endeavored beauties still await visitors to discover.
